I lanesplit most mornings, and lately one thing that's really been getting to me are those stupid 'support our troops' yellow ribbons. It makes me want to scream. It makes me want to knock on the driver's side
window and ask them exactly how giving $5 to Walmart or wherever is supporting our troops. This is 2002, by my calculations 30 to 35 years after peace protestors didn't care about the soldiers dying as well as
the civilians. Supporting our troops is trying to get them out of the deadly quagmire Bush's juvenile pride trapped them in. Heck, it means sending cookies to someone stuck over there (personally, I don't like
halwa, so I feel for them) it doesn't mean buying stickers. Frankly, that is supporting a war profiteer.
Addendum:
Well, time to put my money where my mouth was. Ceej has this link
And I noticed the tab for adopting a soldier.
Well, heck, if it's a mammal, I'm all about the adoption. Plus, it appealed to my morbid sense of humor to send Ceej an e-mail saying "hey let's go in on one." What an awful mental image. But amusement for a good cause.
So shove your yellow ribbon. If you really want to do something then do it. Don't just pose.
