My birthday was as wonderful as promised by my cute little furry preview. (Three, what idiot wanted three of the little reprobates?) The rats have settled into Holly's old room, with a 'summer home' in the office. Although, more often than not, I'm using the small cage out with us as penalty box for Bayliss, who is racking up the time-outs. There is another day at Adobe in his near future. Maybe all of them. I hate snipping them, since it's a lot more difficult than for cats and dogs, but I'm thinking the house will be a lot calmer without quite so much carbonate testosterone on tap.
The birthday itself fell on a Tuesday, and Lynn and I went running around. Ok, I walked and she Nordic tracked along on her crutches. We started by meeting Perry for brunch at Copenhagen Bakery followed by one of their amazing butter-creams. Perry got a candle from them since they do birthday cakes and then proceeded to mooch a lighter from someone, and they sang Happy Birthday to me over a Solvang Slice, which is essentially a small version of a princess cake. ZOMG. So rich. Anyway, Perry had to cut out for emergency dentistry since she's leaving everything (left, by this point) for the summer and managed to destroy a filling, so Lynn and I headed south. She had an appointment, too, but I went to the gym and played around on the machines. One of the guys that runs the place caught sight of me and called over loudly "Happy Birthday!" That kind of made it for me, not that he knew, since my name was in the computer, but that he knew who I was in connection to the name. I've been going there for less than a month. Then Lynn and I went to Lush, since she'd never been. In fact, she'd never been to Valley Fair. So she got to see just what a juggernaut the place is. Then it was time for class and I wasn't intending on missing it just because of my birthday. We fought traffic all the way back up the peninsula in high traffic, only to arrive just after it started. We took one look at the packed room and slunk right back out again. We wound up the evening at a little barbecue place in Belmont that serves hush puppies. Imagine, hush puppies! West of the Mississippi. And they were good!
But my big birthday celebration was Saturday. Tony took me to Teatro Zinzanni. Ceej and David went too and a fine time was had by all. Think Cirque du Soleil with the pretension replaced by camp. It was very Weimar cabaret feeling, I guess it was probably burlesque but art isn't my thing. There were plenty of racy costumes among the wait staff and the acts were amazing. The undisputed best act, an amazingly complex comedy act on a trapeze, was worth the price of the tickets all by itself. The dinner was fine, but secondary to the show. I'd really love to go again.
Thanks to everyone who called- including my brother (!) and e-mailed, including Susan who *might* have had to sneak off base to do so. It made for a great birthday and I really couldn't have enjoyed it any more without leaving the state.
Yay! Glad your birthday was happy. :) :) I tried to send you an IM but I think the Internet ate it somewhere between Australia and Hayward. *sad*

It's those dreaded Internet-pirates of the South Pacific!
I think you might have actually sent it although that was a whole week ago now and at my advanced age, I'm forgetful of things after about oh, ten minutes... :)

Woo! Birthday it's your birthday! But I cannot approve of skipping class. That is a doo-bee no no, Missy.
