Wow, what an amazing day today. The weather is in the upper 70's wind
low, probably 10-15 except through the bay itself. Coming down the hill,
we Saw San Francisco outlined like a Victorian cameo against the swath
of fog creeping in on the late afternoon currents. Everyone who owns a
plane at the Hayward airport seems to be shaking out their wings in the
spring air. There were all sorts of personal craft flying today
including a bi-plane and some whacky type with the engine on top. The
squids are also blooming, and it's kind of amusing and sad at the same
time, since you wonder how many of them will make it through the summer
unscathed. But I guess the same could be said of any of us.
Ironically, Tony and I spent today hunting for hockey equipment. Tony is
doing reconnaissance for a new glove. Naturally, we bought just about
everything but. We were at the store just long enough that I flipped out
and bought a real stick to try instead of my aluminum shaft museum
pieces. The carbon fiber is a one piece, and cost about five times my
old standby even on clearance, but I'll wager it's also about 1/5 the
weight, and my poor shoulder could use the rest. Not to be outdone, Tony
also bought a new stick. Since his are only a couple years newer than
mine, it's probably time. I'm not sure I know too many other people
except Susan who use years as a measure of equipment time- particularly
when you're beyond single digits for most of it.
Anyway, to celebrate getting some spendy new toys, we have completely
blown off any chance of pick up or a skate & shoot tonight, preferring to
go hang with Erin and Sean and enjoy the weather. Ah well, it's
California. They'll always be more on-ice opportunities- and nice weather
to make you think twice about going to it.
