Tonight we watched game one of the Boston Red Sox triumphant march to victory with CJ & David. I managed to pickup the broadcast from the local Fox affiliate on my somewhat hacked together HD setup, but just barely. The antenna machinations I went through were particularly arcane, and at times dangerous. I must admit that radio frequency technology is a complete mystery to me, and in particular the dark corner labeled "antenna voodoo". Every time we host one of these gatherings I resolve to rearchitect my current Goldbergian configuration, and this night being no exception led to some sleep deprived research via the internets. At this time*, I would recommend some good stuff that I stumbled upon at HDTVPrimer. I like the page about antenna types, why and how they work, and so on.
Hmm, I think the real solution is to get a HD Tivo/DirecTV box, and sign up to get the HD channels via satellite, although it's unclear how many local HD channels DirecTV provides.
* - a funny ceejism that I've picked up recently.
